ABOUT US

GAIA (Greek word whose meaning is Mother Earth), is a non-profit non-governmental organization, whose purpose is: Preserve, protect and recover the environment, incorporating the knowledge and actions related to the behavior of the planet as a LIVE BEING in which all its elements interact comprehensively; and Contribute to improve the quality of life of the Salvadoran Society through socio-environmental development.

Its founders and members define themselves as Idealist Entrepreneurs at the service of the Environment and Socio-Environmental Development, under a perspective of deep ecology and a vision of the planet in which we are all part, that is, biodiversity and socio-diversity under the principle of unity.

The GAIA El Salvador Association is a civil society organization, non-governmental, apolitical, non-religious whose aims are:

  • To improve the quality of life of Salvadoran society, with regard to the protection and recovery of the environment.
  • Preserve, protect and recover the environment, incorporating the knowledge and actions related to the behavior of the planet as a living being in which all its elements interact comprehensively.

To be a leading organization in the processes of innovative environmental education, management and integration of Protected Areas, Conservation Areas, Biosphere Reserves, connectivity and socio-environmental development in El Salvador.

Legal framework

The GAIA El Salvador Association, headquartered and domiciled in the city of San Salvador, is registered in the Registry of Nonprofit Associations and Foundations of the Ministry of the Interior.

The Association has obtained its Legal Status and approval of its Statutes through Executive Agreement number 155 of November 7, 2005, registered in number 3 of the book 55 of National Associations on November 30 of the same year, published in the Official Journal as of December 1, 2005.

Transversal Axes

a) Gender Equality: The actions oriented to the vision of the strategy will be an opportunity for the incorporation of women into Salvadorean Society.

b) Active and protagonistic participación of children: The childhood seen as the key to achieve the establishment of true generational chance.

c) Inclusive and participative management: Environmental management will enhance citizen participation expressed in different sectors of society.

d) Education and environmental culture: Any strategic action will base its impact on training and capacity building as a possibility of its sustainability and replicability.

e) Connectivity: The strategic actions will help to achieve the reestablishment of the connectivity of the segmented ecosystems.
